Md Anwer Hossain is an aspiring demographer currently pursuing the St Andrews-Max Planck PhD Studentship in Population Health at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR). He will be working at the MPIDR until February 2026, after which he will complete the program at the University of St Andrews, UK. As a member of the Laboratory of Fertility and Well-Being, his research focuses on the timing of menopause, examining how it varies across generations and social groups (by socioeconomic or migrant status), and its relationship with menarche, reproductive history, and peri- and postmenopausal health.

Mr. Hossain obtained his Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honors) and Master of Social Sciences degrees in Population Sciences from the Department of Population Sciences at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to his current studies, he worked as a full-time Lecturer at the Department of Social Relations at East West University, Bangladesh, where he taught undergraduate students in the Population and Public Health Sciences program. His Master’s thesis, titled “Understanding the Mediation Effect of Women Empowerment in Education-Fertility Nexus in Bangladesh,” received a distinction.
