Second Rostock Open Science Workshop

Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR), Rostock, Germany, March 17–18, 2025

Open science aims to make research results and materials freely accessible to everyone, with the goal of increasing knowledge circulation, increasing transparency, and providing the means to reproduce and generalize published findings.

The Rostock Open Science Workshop will introduce demographic researchers to open science tools and practices, while also offering a platform to discuss its future trajectory. The Workshop will be held at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, on March 17-18, 2024. Hybrid online participation will be available to those that cannot attend the workshop in person.

This two-day event will also cover strategies to make research reproducible and accessible to a wider public and offer a space for participants to discuss and to reflect on their research practice. During the workshop, keynote speakers will provide insights into open science, considering its impact on academia and the broader community. Hands-on practical sessions with expert instructors will enable the participants to use open science tools in their everyday work. PhD students and postdocs are welcome, as are experienced scientists.

How to apply

Limited places are available for external participants to participate on site. If you want to attend the Workshop in person, please submit your application before 15^th of September 2024 here. The application includes (1) a CV and (2) a paragraph describing your motivation for participating in the Workshop (maximum 200 words). Please also indicate if you are primarily an R or Stata user or work with other software. Applicants should have received a PhD, or should be enrolled in a PhD program. Please get in touch if this does not apply to you but you are interested in participating.

There are no tuition fees for the Workshop. Participants are expected to pay their own transportation and living costs. For students or junior scientists from low- and middle-income countries with financial limitations there will be a limited number of travel stipends to cover travel and accommodation. Please state in your application if you also want to apply for a travel stipend.
