11:00 AM: Muhammed Fevzi Esen Migrant Disaster Victim Identification Through Social Media: Is it possible?

Hybrid Format
Room 400 and Zoom

The migration crisis is one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Migrants often face extreme hardships, including human trafficking, exploitation, and violence. These experiences leave digital traces on social media platforms as migrants and their families use these tools to seek help, share information, and stay connected. Detecting these digital traces can play a crucial role in identifying and assisting migrant victims. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are rich sources of real-time data that can be harnessed to gain insights into the experiences of migrant victims and develop timely interventions. This study aims to discuss the role of social media in the identification of migrant victims.

Dr. Esen is currently working at the department of health information systems in University of Health Sciences in İstanbul. His area of expertise is health data, information systems and data mining.
