We are delighted to welcome Doreen Sarah Pilz. She supports the International Max Planck Research School for Population, Health and Data Science (IMPRS-PHDS) as Secretary.
Why did you choose MPIDR as your new employer?
The job description sounded very good and interesting. I also heard a lot of positive things about MPIDR. Another plus is that in my last job I worked from home, and now the beautiful building is within walking distance.
What motivates you to work in this field?
I studied English/American Studies, so I'm even happier to be in contact with people from all over the world and to make their arrival, departure and stay as pleasant as possible.
Where are you from? What do you miss most about your home country?
I come from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, from a very small town called Brüel (we have the status of a (small) town, although we only have about 2,500 inhabitants). I'm there regularly because my parents and some friends still live there. What I like most is the closeness of the town and the fact that everyone knows each other by name. Everyone knows who your parents, siblings or other relatives are. So it's different from Rostock... here I can go shopping without running into anyone who knows me.
What don't you like?
The lack of anonymity - it's a blessing and a curse at the same time 😊.
What do you like most about your job?
I really enjoy everything at the moment. Of course, I hope this will still be the case in a few months... but I'm pretty confident 😊 However, my colleagues deserve a special mention. I received a very positive welcome and have felt very comfortable since the first day.
