We are happy to welcome Susanne Otto to the team in the Department Social Demography. Susanne will be the responsible secretary for the Biosfer and MaxHel projects and support the researchers.
What's your job at MPIDR?
This means, for example, planning business trips and meetings for scientists, or even preparing financial reports. It will certainly be very varied!
Why did you choose MPIDR as your new employer?
As a renowned research institute, MPIDR caught my attention a few years ago because I am a trained European correspondent and there are only a few employers in Rostock who are specifically looking for such people. Besides, I think science is great and exciting! I'm very happy to be able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through my work.
What is your motivation to work in this field?
After almost five years as a clerk in the ticket jungle of a car rental company, I was simply looking for new challenges and wanted to gain experience in the secretarial field. It was also important for me to find a job that I find meaningful and positive.
What do you like most about Rostock (and maybe: what do you dislike most)?
For me, Rostock is the perfect size and combines the advantages of nature and city. Who wouldn't want to live just a stone's throw from the sea? I love walking in the coastal forest and enjoying the fresh air. Only the thieving seagulls who cheekily steal your ice cream from your hand need to be educated 😉 .
What is your favourite and least favourite part of your job?
With a pleasant working atmosphere and nice colleagues, it's easy to get through the madness of the working day. I have a bit of a helper's syndrome and like to give people advice and support. Accordingly, I don't like it so much when I can't offer a satisfactory solution (often due to external circumstances).
