December 03, 2024 | News | New Faces at MPIDR
Welcome, Maren Koch!
Maren Koch joined the team of the department of Digital and Computational Demography.
The Max Planck Institue for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is happy to welcome Maren Koch to the administrative team. Maren will support the Laboratories of Migration and Mobility and Population Dynamics and Sustainable Well-Being as foreign language secretary.
What is your role at MPIDR?
I work here at the institute as a foreign language secretary in the office of Director Emilio Zagheni and I am responsible for his Lab members. I am very much looking forward to being the point of contact for the scientists, to supporting them in their work and to taking care of administrative matters for them.
Why did you choose MPIDR as your new employer?
The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research is an internationally renowned institution. And there is hardly any other workplace in Rostock where you come into contact with all these different cultures. I am happy to be able to work with so many nations of the world and to use and expand my learned English skills every single day.
What motivates you to work in this field?
I was very touched by the warm and open welcome I received from my new colleagues. I am very much looking forward to my new area of work and the diversity of my activities. I am very good at organizing and planning, enjoy working in a team and am happy to be a great support to the scientists.
Where are you from?
I was born here in Rostock and have spent almost all of my life here. In the 90s, I lived and worked in the United States for six years.
I really do love my hometown, especially the proximity to the Baltic Sea. In my eyes there is nothing more breathtaking then watching the sun go down over the sea, and I am happy about how Rostock has developed over the past 30 years… so colorful and vibrant.
What made me move to the rural area three years ago is the peace and quiet, the beautiful landscape and nature, and that I can realize my ideas in my garden.
